The Untitled Index

The Untitled Index System is a naming system for which I use for all of my instrumentals and compositions. Regardless of whether they are songs or instrumentals, nearly all of my original music will start as an Untitled with a corresponding number for specific indentification. The few notable exceptions include R.I.P., As Heaven Falls, One Thing in Mind, as well as many of my early songs (e.g. Mirage, Inside).

Untitled 1-10: The Early Instrumentals These are the early instrumentals I used primarily for development in my own compositional skills. Though I lacked many skills of the musician I have aquired since, I still took advantage of experimentaion and stretching the boundaries of my own technical skill. During this period was when I was also putting alot of energy into recording covers of simple rock music in conjunction with this original music. Notable points in this series include Untitled 4, which was another title I used for the infamous "Moby Dick" instrumental made with guitarist Zach Gibson under the band name of Pancake Kult. Most of the instrumentals I made during this period were also under this band name. Another turning point was Untitled 8, which was when my recording equipment improved drastically, and this instrumental, arguably the best from this series, is partly influential on Memory Lapse a.k.a. Untitled 19. Untitled 5 was also known as "Untouchable."

Untitled 11-13: The Transitional Instrumentals These instrumentals made a big transition for me as a musician from the guitarist before to the musician I am today. These instrumentals distinctly showed me the weaknesses of my musicianship as well as its strengths in a way I was previously unaware. From this I would eventually strive to develop a style somewhat like that of my recent work. Untitled 11 was a departure from my usual instrumentals in that it featured increasing experimentation and more complete backround music. It was the first song I used the drum machine with, and one of the first I used vocals with, and it is from this I mean that I learned many of my weaknesses at the time. Untitled 12 was an improvement from this, and was especially significant in that it was another composition done in collaboration with guitarist Zach Gibson, and the high quality of the dual guitar work did well to reflect this. Untitled 13 was never finished and, thus, never released. After this period I would work to improve my skill until I was ready for better original work through more symphonic covers.

Untitled 14 to Present: Active Instrumentals After most of my covers, I began to feel increasingly ready to compose my own original work, and this was started by R.I.P. Though, looking back now, I had much to improve on, this start was necessary to develop my own compositional style of original work. Some covers would continue to be made early in this period, and some of particular interest are still being considered to this day, but currently my main focus remains on developing my own original work. Of notable interest is My Flower a.k.a. Untitled 14, which marked a big change in direction towards what I believe to my own signature style of music, one that would not be truly revisited until Afterlife a.k.a Untitled 16.
